Tattoos are like jewelry to me, decoration. I was trying to be cool when I started, but I just don't care about that anymore. I love my tattoos, but I am very tired of having to talk about them.
So, for those who are still curious here are the FAQs
Q. Did it hurt?
A. Yes, it hurts. It's not
that bad at first, but a few hours into the process and your are
feeling it. Ouch.
I'm sad that this is the first thought that people have about tattoos. For me, obviously, it is so worth a little bit of pain to get these really great images added to me.
I must add here that I don't wear high heals because they hurt. I don't wear panty hose because they are horribly uncomfortable. I won't get plastic surgery cause it's brutal. There are plenty of things that human's do for fashion, that hurt. It's all just a matter of culture; what is acceptable and what is not.
Most of the best things in life come with, or result in pain. It's part of life. If you let fear of pain stop you from living, then what's the point?
Q. How many Tattoos do you have?
A. I have 20
tattoos at last count.
Q.Where'd you get your work done?
A. I
actually did many of them myself. I even
tattooed other folks for money. (More about that here.)
Greg Kulz at Erno Tattoo did the three shown above. Then
I had a couple more done by my
friends Diane and Beth who were both working out of
Black
and Blue Tattoo at the time. My evil ex Jim did a
couple. The latest one, Shannon Archuleta did for me.
She is a wonderful artist at Lyle Tuttle Tattooing.
Q. (From people I don't know) Would you design me a...? (Money is very rarely
offered.)
A.No. My suggestion, for those of you wanting a really great personal
design, is that you pay an artist friend or the tattoo artist, who
will be tattooing you, to set you up with a personal design. Then
everyone wins.
Remember, you get what you pay for, and tattoos are permanent.
Q. How do you make a homemade tattoo gun?
A.
I don't know, because I didn't make the one that I had. Sorry.
I don't advise trying to figure this stuff out for yourself. You can order a book out of the back of any tattoo magazine. But because I know there are those of you who will forge ahead anyway, here are some important tips.
- Use pure india ink, or better yet, real tattoo inks. Most inks that you can get at art stores have other stuff in them and are toxic.
- Keep things clean. You can get bad infections if you don't disinfect your needles. Soak your needles in rubbing alcohol before you use them. Only use them once. Don't tattoo different people with the same needled no matter what you do.
- In tattooing, the ink just gets pushed in by the tip of the needle, no syringe action is happening.
- It only takes a little ink getting lodged in the skin to make a tattoo, and you only put the ink in a fraction of an inch, 1/16th inch or so. Going too deep will mess up your tattoo. Injuring the skin too much will mess up your tattoo.
- Tattoos last a life time. Save up and spend the money.
